Lions Pride aims to create an educationally rich experience for its students. To do so, we provide a holistic curriculum covering five categories:
Sciences; Culture; Arts, Language and Ethics;
Taken together, this is our SCALE curriculum!
The purpose of SCALE is to ensure that our students develop holistically. We understand that different subject areas interrelate and inform each other. Students who are great readers are able to study the textbooks that help them excel in science. Kids who excel in the arts are able to express themselves in ways that make them more sensitive socially and emotionally. Children who understand how to make safe and smart choices have the foundation they need to excel in other subject matters.
We give our students the confidence and knowledge they need to flourish in all areas of life and academics! A well-rounded toolkit and knowledge set gives our students the freedom in the future to excel in whichever areas they find the most interesting and rewarding.
In sum, multi-talented students have the option to reach their full academic and social potential in whatever ways they prefer!
Kids engage in science every day simply by observing their world. Indeed, science is the process of learning and discovering about the natural world around us and beyond. Our goal is to help students understand their physical environment, their own bodies and the social world in which they live.
We provide the information and materials that let children explore the natural and physical world around them. We use hands-on activities to work on solving problems together. This kind of project-based learning helps children with their critical and analytical thinking. It also develops their communication skills.
Ultimately, we help children to develop a strong basic understanding of a subject matter allowing them to discover the answers and draw conclusions on their own, not just giving them the answers.
As an international family, we believe strongly in creating global citizens who understand and respect different cultures. We broaden our children’s understanding of the world around us by introducing classic stories, poems and songs from the U.S., Europe, Asia and beyond!
The goal of our Culture curriculum is to familiarize our children with the classic folktales, songs, stories and poems that are our cultural patrimony. Our children also develop their reading comprehension and analysis skills such as using pictures and context to make predictions, connecting story content to life experiences, identifying characters, setting, and important plot events and distinguishing fantasy from realistic text.
The second goal of our Culture curriculum is to help children practice telling stories and explaining their own views in groups small and large. Children develop confidence, poise and grace. Through a supportive community and fun activities, children are encouraged to gradually develop their public speaking and performance skills. Our children sometimes do group performances to develop teamwork and social skills.
The Arts portion of our curriculum encompasses both Music and Fine Arts. Together, they enrich our students’ imagination and creativity through the exploration of a variety of art forms and works. Our teachers help our students to see and to express beauty and to create their own art!
Our music activities help students experience music and happiness through a range of songs and games. We use music to express our feelings and experiences.
We sing constantly in the classroom, which is great both as a means of expression and as a way to learn new vocabulary and phrases. We also dance throughout the school day. Our goals is both to express ourselves and to develop our gross motor skills.
Our students also love to play with simple musical instruments. It’s a great way to exercise, to express ourselves and to learn how to work together as a group.
Language skills are developed through communication and practice. We create a fun and relaxed environment that encourages our students to share with each other. We learn by connecting language to our daily lives. Our language classes are on an evolving set of areas that become more sophisticated as our children progress in age and skill. Our sub-areas include:
In the classroom, our teachers are both guides and role models. We are constantly modeling proper language as we engage in fun activities such as songs, group reading sessions, flashcards, role plays and so much more.
Our first and foremost goal is to give our students the means to express and share their ideas, thoughts and feelings with others. That’s the true purpose of language!
We teach ethics by helping our children identify their own emotions and abilities. We discuss how their actions affect the people around them. We contextualize this by putting children’s actions into words: “Tim, you have the skill to tie your own shoelaces, let’s practice together.” Or we might make an observation: “Tina, I know you’re upset because you are crying, if you use your words, we can help solve what is making you upset.”
The ability to control our emotions and desires is crucial to happiness in preschool and in life. We work on this during individual work time, teaching each child to play with her or his own material unless and until another child invites someone else to play. If a child becomes upset, we practice calming down and finding our center. Learning self-control takes time and patience!
Preschool means that we all agree to follow rules and behavior patterns that make the group a happy and fun time for every child. This doesn’t come naturally! We practice learning the rules of the group (taking turns, saying thank you, etc.) throughout the day, in class, during meals and on the playground.
We can’t wait to meet your family! Get in touch for a one-on-one tour and we’ll answer all of your questions.
